This scene is inspired by the famous Blue Grotto in Capri, but there is one in Croatia, too.

This drawing by Swiss geologist Leo Wehrli, after the German geophysicist August Heinrich Sieberg, shows how sunlight is reflected into the cave through a second, submerged entrance (Wikimedia Commons). Wehrli’s collection of more than 10 000 diapositives, many of them hand-coloured by his wife Anna Margaretha Wehrli-Frey, can be viewed here.
