Aspirante ufficiale is a designation that you often encounter when looking through rolls and lists of Italian men serving in WW1. In the extremely bloody battles on the Alpine front, Italy lost many officers and had to rapidly train anyone with a sufficient education to replace the losses. An aspirante is thus someone who has been accepted into officer training.

Sometimes you just can’t show, you have to settle for telling. But at some point we will get some blasts from the past, if you pardon the expression.
